Last year, we had some of the most staggering launches of world-class smartphones in India, which started off with Motorola Milestone(Asian version of Motorola Droid) in late March and loads of other Android phones later. Despite antenna hiccups, iPhone 4 had enough glare that gadget frenzy Indian buyers bought tons of iPhones by importing it right from US.
And as expected, 2011 will see much glorified product launches and whole bunch of smartphones launching one after another. Mobile World Congress 2011, which is scheduled to happen in mid-February will unleash some of the most awaited smartphones, the world has been waiting for.
So hold your breath ! After digging through all the gizmotics and Internet media , we’ve compiled a detailed list of most awaited smartphones of 2011 that world is currently buzzing about.

iPhone 5:
It’s not going to be an easy task for iPhone 5 to recreate the ‘Apple Magic’, especially when military of Android phones are outpacing Apple iPhone in all departments but there’s also no denying that iPhone 5 is sure to create waves across the globe when it hits Apple stores this year.
If rumors are to be believed, iPhone 5 will be totally redesigned, will come with a robust antenna design, higher processor speed, front facing camera for video calling and probably a bigger display . Summer of 2011 is the suspected launch period.
Sony Ericsson Xperia Play:
Better known as ‘Playstation Phone’, Sony Ericsson ‘Xperia Play’ is a pure blend of PSP and Xperia Android phone. It will come loaded with the latest Android 2.3 OS (Gingerbread) and will bring all the high-end gaming excitement to your android phone. Dedicated gaming pad is something that aggressive gamers will surely cheer about.
Popular gaming titles such as Ridge Racer Revolution, Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 4 and Super Mario Bros. 4 will all be available on Xperia Play. Almost all PS1 games are planned to be available to Android phones by year end.
As per the rumor mill, we should see this phone launching during MWC 2011 . This will be the first phone with almost all features of a Playstation Portable. Nokia N9:
Nokia N9 is one of the most awaited smartphones for early 2011, ever since rumors about it started to appear after the launch of Nokia N8. If all goes well then Nokia N9 will come packed with 1.2 GHz processor, which will become the fastest processor Nokia has ever used in its smartphones. There are very bright chances that it will be officially launched in Mobile World Congress(MWC) scheduled to be held in February. Nokia has already launched some good smartphones like Nokia N900, Nokia N8, Nokia X7-00 in the past, but it needs to come up with a flawless smartphone to give a tough fight to Android lineup and Apple iPhone. Samsung Galaxy S 4G:
Samsung Galaxy S 4G is the latest offering from Samsung and follows up with its Samsung Galaxy S lineup. With Super AMOLED touchscreen and zapping 4G speeds, this phone will try to replicate the same success that Galaxy S brought to Samsung. Size of the screen has not been revealed yet but it’s certainly going to be 4 incher or bigger.
It has native 4G WiMAX support, powered by Sprint’s 4G network already available in over 30 cities in the US. Samsung has already produced some good smartphones such as Samsung Galaxy mini, Samsung i8910 Omnia HD, Samsung Wave 533 etc and featured phones like Samsung Champ C3300 in the past so expectations will obviously be high.
Motorola Olympus:
It is going to be the latest smartphone which will come with a new Android 2.3(Gingerbread) OS. It will probably come with Dual core Tegra 2 Processor which will boost its speed by leaps and bounds.
Motorola Olympus is rumored to be launching by end of Q1 2011 with other Motorola line ups such as Motorola Glam. Will it be as successful as Motorola Droid(Motorola milestone), only time will tell…
Nokia E7:
Nokia E7 is one of Nokia’s flagship business phones and successor of the Nokia E90 communicator.
With an easy-to-use slider QWERTY keyboard, this phone would be preferred by those who love QWERTY phones such as Nokia C6, Nokia C3 etc.
This phone may get launched by end of first quarter, 2011.
LG Pecan:
This mid-range smartphone is suspected to be unveiled during MWC 2011. LG Pecan will be running Android 2.2 OS. LG is planning to recreate the magic of Optimum One with this android phone and the pricing is surely going to be affordable for Indian buyers.
LG Pecan will have similar set of features as Optimus One but LG is planning to sell it for around $200 so as to become a hot-selling phone for Asian markets. In Indian currency, the pricing is going to be somewhere between Rs.8500-Rs.9500.
Altek Leo:
This android phone from Altek boasts a surprisingly high 14 MP, Point and shoot camera. Albeit being a less popular brand, manufacturers are going to launch it initially in Asia, starting with Hong kong, China, Taiwan and then it will be launched in Europe by end of Q1 2011.
